Scenes of mass panic unfolded after Suzuki Vitara slammed into Blake’s Nightclub in Gravesend, Kent, just before midnight last night, with cops now quizzing a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. The silver 4×4 had ploughed into a marquee set up in the smoking area at the venue, where South London rapper Giggs was due to perform, last night, with police saying they believed the driver of the vehicle had been asked to leave the club earlier in the evening after an altercation. In terrifying footage, cops can be seen pulling the suspect out of the seriously damaged car – with angry crowds surrounding them in the chaos.
A number of angry and terrified revellers even appear to be screaming at the suspect as cops try to control the scene. One of the people behind the camera can also be heard asking: “why did he do that?” A 21-year-old is now being questioned by cops on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody. At least 13 people were injured, with several people suffering broken bones. One clubber said he was in the smoking area and saw the driver arguing with bouncers at the front of the club. He told The Sun: “I saw all the security guards shouting. They were standing in front of the car to stop it moving but it reversed and really went for it. “One guard got the door open and was trying to pull him out or stop the car but it kept coming towards us.
“Another security guard tried to jump out of the way but he went onto the bonnet and hit the windscreen.“I knew he wasn’t going to stop so I just got my girlfriend and we ran out of there.” Other witnesses told The Sun Online that revellers immediately started throwing things at the car that had smashed into crowds, including a table. Jade Keepin said: “People were throwing things at the car, “I came out the toilets in the shisha lounge and there was a car in the middle of the floor that security were surrounding and I just saw a person in there smash the back window of the car with his elbow and people throwing stuff at the car. “It was manic but security were making sure we were okay getting everyone into the main hall and safe.”
