Oscar De La Hoya Takes Cheap Shots At Floyd Mayweather During Canelo / Smith Presser
Fight fans around the world are still scratching their heads as to why the Gennady “GGG” Golovkin vs Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight could not happen this year. Instead fight fans will have to wait until 2017 to possibly see a fight happen between the two according to Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya.
In the interim we all have the luxury of looking forward to September 17, 2016 When Alvarez will face off against British opponent (23-0-1) Liam Smith for the WBO Light Middleweight Title, which will take place at AT&T Stadium where the NFL Dallas Cowboys call home in Arlington, Texas.
During the press conference for the upcoming fight yesterday Oscar hit back at critics while taking another cheap shot at longtime rival Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. “That fight (GGG vs Canelo) will have to happen sooner rather than later, but this was not the time,” reiterated De La Hoya to ESPN Deportes. “We are not going to wait eight or 10 years, like
what happened with Floyd Mayweather fighting Manny Pacquiao. It will be made sometime next year.” Canelo has no issue with fighting Golovkin next year, but his current focus is fully on Smith.
